About Bedford

Picture
The Bedford Police Provide Community Policing Services to the Town of Bedford.  The organization is comprised of 28 full-time, sworn officers;   7 Communications Officers, a full-time and a part-time secretary,  two School Crossing Guards, an Animal Control Officer and 22 part-time traffic officers.  The department is committed to pro-active law enforcement, it also has an educational component through active traffic safety, and crime prevention programs.

Bedford, a suburban community of 13.85 square miles is about 15 miles Northwest of Boston, it is served by interstate route 95 and routes 3, 4, 62 and 225.
In addition to a population of about 14,000 people, the town includes Edith Nourse Rogers Veterans Administration Medical Center, Hanscom Air Force Base, and Middlesex Community College.  The industry in town is largely related to Military Defense, the computer industry and high tech.  The town also contains several retail shopping centers.

The original Bedford Flag was carried by the Bedford Minutemen in 1775 to the battle with the British at the Old North Bridge in Concord, it is proudly displayed in the Bedford Free Public Library.  The flag is reproduced on our patch and on our stationary.

The route of the Minuteman Bike Trail, one of the most successful "rails to trails" conversions runs through Arlington, Lexington and Bedford and may be accessed on South Road or Wiggins Avenue in Bedford.
