VIN Etching

What is it?
VIN etching is a chemical process in which your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is permanently etched into the windows of your car, van, bus or truck.

Why should I do it?
By permanently etching the VIN into the window glass of your vehicle, your vehicle is less likely to be stolen, and the VIN can provide and assist in its recovery if it is stolen.  A warning label is applied to the inside of the driver's door window, alerting would-be thieves that the vehicle has been marked for identification by The Bedford Police Department.

Why is it effective?

The moment your vehicle is reported stolen, its Federally Registered Identification - the VIN - becomes the mark of a stolen vehicle.  Thieves are less likely to risk the theft of an easily identified vehicle, nor are they willing to spend the necessary time, effort and money required to replace VIN marked windows.  That's what they have to do when glass etching is in place.

How do you benefit?
With the permanent VIN marking on your vehicle, you are less likely to suffer the financial loops and aggravation that accompanies the loss of your car to a professional
thief.

Most auto insurers are so certain that VIN etching will lower the chance of theft and save money that they offer up to a 15% discount on your comprehensive insurance.
